Qingyang Xu - Multipotentialite
Qingyang Xu, PMP, PSM I, LMSW, has worked in the mental health field since 2013. She is a New York State (NYS) licensed psychotherapist, NYS- and NJ- licensed public school teacher, licensed project management professional, and professional scrum master. She involves in multiple start-up projects and is also the co-founder of Metropolitan Art Atelier.
Qingyang holds a Master of Science degree in Health, Mental Health, and Disabilities
from Columbia University School of Social Work and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
from Michigan State University, along with a specialization certificate in Bioethics,
Humanities, and Society. She masters various psychotherapy modalities, such as
Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Qingyang emphasizes the importance of holistic
healthcare, advocating for the integration of biological, social, environmental, spiritual,
and mental health considerations in personalized care.
Qingyang has experience working with children and adults of various ages in private
practice, including high-achieving individuals and families who experience
communication and relationship issues or mental health concerns. She previously
managed a caseload of 50 juveniles in a court probation program, addressing their
school performance, cultivating healthy behavioral habits and mindsets, communicating
with schools and families about student performance, and reporting to the court for case
maintenance or dismissal.
In addition to her therapy work, Qingyang serves as a program manager at Columbia
University Irving Medical Center and is the project lead for healthcare innovation
development. She has also participated in projects to develop and deliver courses for
1st and 3rd-year doctoral students.
Qingyang is an editor and part of the founding team of the first Chinese American
mental health magazine, “Chinese Mental Health Professionals.” As a career mentor at
the Columbia University School of Social Work, she assists master’s-level students with
goal setting, DEI concerns, and career coaching.
Her previous roles include successfully delivering the first FDA-EUA-approved COVID-
19 tests to the market, working with human trafficking victims by providing counseling
and testifying with them in Kings and Queens County human trafficking courts, and
collaborating with NGOs and charities to help single mothers develop parenting skills.
Additionally, she treated clients with both criminal histories and severe mental disorders
at the City University of New York and provided therapy services to clients with various
mental health disorders at Gouverneur Hospital’s behavioral health department.
Qingyang believes that diverse experiences come together to improve the accuracy of
population targeting, the design of services, and the overall effectiveness of mental
health and healthcare delivery.
